The Holt-Lunstad Meta-Analysis: Quantifying Social Death

Loma Linda: The Adventist Community

Seventh-day Adventists in Loma Linda, California, live an average of 7–10 years longer than their American counterparts. Diet and abstinence from alcohol and tobacco play a role, but so does the tight-knit faith community structure — weekly social gathering (Sabbath), shared values, volunteerism, and mutual social support create the kind of consistent, purposeful social connection that Holt-Lunstad's data identifies as protective.

Weak Ties Matter More Than You Think
